Here's a quick method of ensuring your MD is lovely and clean.
You'll need:
Diethyl ether (it's easy to get, you won't attract suspicion if you're sensible, buy it in small <500ml amounts)
Acetone (As above, hundreds of legit uses)
Isopropyl alcohol (buy it from a pharmacy or ebay)
some pasteur pipettes
a few 50ml beakers.
a heat gun or other heat source (no naked flames).

Put 2g of MDMA in the beaker.
Chill 20 ml ether and 20 ml acetone.
Heat up 10mL isopropyl alcohol.
Add the hot alcohol dropwise to the MDMA, heating as you do so.
If solids remain when all the MDMA has dissolved, carefully pipette the still hot solution into a second beaker. The solids are usually a bit of sugar added as a cut and are largely insoluble in IPA.
Allow the solution to cool for 1 h, then slowly add the chilled ether with swirling.
A fine powder will precipitate. When precipitation ceases, carefully pipette off any remaining liquid.
Add 10 ml chilled acetone, swirl and remove this liquid.
Add 10 ml chilled ether, swirl and remove.
Dry the precipitate under a lamp overnight.
You will have crunchy, sparkly crystals. I've tested this on several batches of euro MDMA and the resulting product is 100% pure, with a melting point of 153 °C (!!). Using this quick and dirty method you will get >80% product recovery by mass.

The product is much nicer to insufflate and is completely odorless and colorless.

Back when I first joined this forum I did a little tutorial on how easily clean MDMA.
I was bored this afternoon and had a few gramsof MDMA lying around so I thought I'd do a little photo tutorial.

You'll need 3 beakers/ flasks, 2 pipettes, a spatula, some IPA, ether, acetone, MDMA, hot water.

Place 1.0g MDMA in a beaker.
Heat 10mL IPA in a conical flask immersed in freshly boiled water (cover flask with parafilm to stop water getting in).
Add 2mL of the hot IPA to the MDMA.
It probably won't dissolve immediately so cover the beaker with parafilm and immerse in freshly boiled water.
Don't swirl too much or MD will stick to the sides of the beaker and crystallise out.
In solution!
Allow to cool to room temp then put in fridge for 1/2 hour, then freezer for 1 hour.
Cool about 10ml of both acetone and ether in the freezer for an hour.
Crystals covered in IPA solution of yellow impurities.
Remove the IPA with a pipette and wash the remaining crystals sequentially 5mL of ether then acetone then ether again.
Crystals look cleaner with each wash.
Scrape crystals out onto clean surface and dry under a lamp.
After 1 hour of drying they were super sparkly!
Marquis results, left to right- crude, white gunk which coprecipitated out, clean sparkles).

I got 930mg pure back from the 1g I started with. When I crystallised it out, there were the usual needles plus some weird white gunky material which I fished out with a spatula, I reheated the beaker to get the rest of it to go back into solution then cooled again and there was no more gunk.
The gunky crap weighed just over 50mg, dried to a fine white powder and tested black with marquis.
Obviously it's very empirical but it didn't taste of MDMA! Not a clue what it is, maybe just some polymorph of MDMA?

Jaeh... fra et vist synspunkt kan man godt sige, at MDMA HCl aldrig kan overstige 84% indhold af MDMA molekyler. Men hvis man måler renhed af et stof på den måde, er det kun stoffer (aminer) på freebase form, der kan være helt rene. Men ja, i princippet får man kun omkring 840 mg MDMA, hvis man køber et gram 99,9% rent MDMA HCl.

Men nu hvor æter er forholdsvis svær at få fat i.. Ku man så springe den del over hvor man vasker krystallerne med de 5 ml æter ad gangen, som beskrevet oven over ? Eller falder det hele så til jorden igen ? Kan man nøjes med at skylle det i acetone feks ?

En af mine venner kørte HPLC på nogle MDMA-krystaller, de indeholdt 70% MDMA og 30% isosafrol.
Jeg tror safrolen er mere opløselige end MDMA i acetone, så det ville måske give en lille effekt.

Syre/base ekstraktion er dog, som Imp siger, vejen frem.
